Road Trip to Arizona

Shane’s parents recently purchased a retirement home in Arizona, and asked us if we wanted to drive their car out for them (and it happens to be a fun sports car!). And we said, “Heck yea!” They met us half-way (from Louisville) and traded us Jada for their car and they flew with Jada out to Arizona. So, we’ll be on the road for 3 days, then we’ll meet Shane’s family in Arizona. Here are some of the places we drove through:

Memphis - known for their jazz and blues!

TexArkana – Otherwise known as hillbilly city! Although, I guess we can’t talk much coming from hick-town…..

Arkedelphia – So, what do you get when you cross Arkansas with Philadelphia?? This road sign might give you a clue… :)

Our first day, we drove 11 hours and stayed in Dallas, TX. The next morning, we decided to go to the heart of Dallas to hang out for a little bit. But, we found that the streets were nearly empty! Maybe it was because it was a Saturday and the weekend before Christmas, but still, it was so weird! It was like a ghost town. But we had fun goofing off anyway.

The next day we drove 9 hours, which was all through the great state of Texas. Here's some pics of some windmills and cotton fields we drove past.

That night we stayed in El Paso, and we were surprised at how COLD it was! We went out for some Tex Mex. I think they say in Texas "de-lici-oso!"

We drove 7 hours into Arizona the last day, and we didn't get any other pictures that day, except for one of me trying to get over the fence at the Mexican border. But sadly it was confiscated by the Mexican Police... :) Just a joke!

We had a fun little road trip together!

Arizona Christmas

Here's a picture of us at the Mesa Arizona LDS temple grounds. We had a great Christmas with Shane's family. I'm putting a slide-show of pictures of our Christmas soon.

Balance Boards

Last summer we went out to Lake Powell with Shane's family and stayed on a house-boat for about a week. We had so much fun wake-boarding, when I came home, I looked online to see if I could find something to help improve balance and such (since we don't have the luxury of being able to hit the lake out here in Tennessee!) So I found these boards online, called Indo Boards.

They were a little too pricey for me, but I found a template online on how to make one, and decided to try it out! We decided to make one for Scott and Tara for Christmas. It's basically just plywood with wood stops glued at the ends, vinyl lettering, lacquer, strips of grip tape on the bottom of the board, and 4 or 6" pipe. Kevin (Shane's sister's husband) has amazing equipment and expertise, and helped us figure this out and make it look good. All of the edges on the board and pipe were so nice and rounded and smooth! He even helped us figure out how to get the bar codes and lettering off of the pipes (full strength acetone!) And it was a fraction of the cost of the Indo Boards.

Here's Dallin (Scott and Tara's Son) showing off his skills!

It was a hit and everyone wanted one, so Kevin and Shane went to Home Depot and got materials to make 4 more boards so everyone could have one!

Off Roading!

The desert may not be very pretty, but it sure is FUN! Keri and Kevin sure have some fun toys. We took this out just about every day up some canyon or dirt tracks just about every day. It was a blast!

Stinker Pot!

One day, while driving to church, Shane and I made up this “time-out” song!! Here’s Jada singing it (turn up your volume) :

Here are the words in case you couldn’t tell what they were:

I’m a little stinker-pot
Short and Stout
Here is my Attitude
Here is my Pout

When I get all Steamed up
Hear me SHOUT!
Just take me over
For a quick time-out!

The Udy Sisters

Shane's Mom and her sisters used to have a musical singing group! They were pretty awesome and on their way to stardom. This is a documentary of their group, filmed by Shane's cousin, Brandon.

Baby Gap

A few months ago, I saw an advertisement for a Baby Gap photo contest. So, I took some pictures of Jada, but I forgot to submit them! So, I decided to just post them online! Isn’t she a cutie? We think so, but I guess we’re just a little biased!

Jada Dancing

Jada's been taking a dance class for the past few months and sure loves it! She is always dancing whenever she gets the chance. Sometimes she pulls me over to the piano to play for her just so she has some music to dance to!

What color are Jada's eyes?

Mine are brown, and Shane's are blue. I think that Jada's eyes are "Brue!" If you click on this picture to enlarge, you will see that her eyes are blue on the outside, but brownish on the inside. They are a very pretty color, but we have no idea what to tell her when she asks what color they are! What do you think? You can add comments to this post, or take the poll to the left!

So You Think You Can Dance

A friend of mine called me up and asked if we would like some tickets to the "So You Think You Can Dance" Concert in Nashville. Something came up last minute and she couldn't go and had to give away the tickets. She knew we liked to dance so she asked us. Shane and I were so excited to go! But also sad for my friend who couldn't go. I was amazed when we got there, the seats were right by the stage and about 4 rows up. Awesome!

Here's a short clip of the concert. I wish I could have recorded the whole show!

Daddy Daughter Bowling

A few weeks ago, Shane was so sweet and decided to take out Jada for some shopping and some fun to give me a little break so I could get some things done. He took her duck pin bowling and they had a blast. Jada beat Shane by one point!

Shane took this video clip with his phone. Jada got a spare!

Hot Dogs and News!

My brother Grant had a take your kid to work day at his work. So during the day Kate decided to pop in with his "kids!" This is Oscar and Scooter. Grant had always wanted a weiner dog growing up, but Mom & Dad never let us get one. So last Christmas, Kate surprised Grant with these cute little guys! But soon they are going to have to make some room for Grant & Kate's future addition. Mid April they are due to have a BABY!! We are all so excited for them! Jada's first cousin on my side!!

Powers Gone Postal!

I asked Jada what she wanted to be this year for Halloween. I thought that surely she'd want to be a Princess (we have tons of princess dress-up stuff!) But she said she wanted to be a present for Halloween! I was amazed at her creativity. So I thought... sure, why not!

So I found a box and wrapped it up and decked it out and..... Viola! A beautiful present. Then Shane had an idea for us to dress up as Postal workers and Jada could be the package. And then I thought of the theme "Powers Gone Postal!" It was a hit at our church party! Jada won a prize for most original costume. There's just something about Halloween that always brings out the kid in me..... But to be honest, I think just about anything does!

SHAC dance & work

Today I started my ballet class at the Spring Hill Arts Center! It was a blast. My instructor Chelsea is awesome and she works us hard, which is good.... I REALLY need it!

I also recently took on a position at SHAC as their PR /marketing person. I'll be doing their marketing and press relations. SHAC is a full spectrum arts center. They have dance, music, theater productions, visual arts, etc. I'm thrilled to get involved with this to help it grow and expand. And I feel it will be a great blessing to our family to be involved with the community and to share our love for the arts! Jada starts her ballet class tomorrow, and she and I both can't wait!

Sunday Drive up Nachez Trace

Conference weekend we decided to get out of the house and go for a drive. We drove up to Nachez Trace, which is a national park. It's beautiful! Not quite the the Utah Canyons, but definitely has it's own appeal.

We stopped for a little bit to walk around, and we saw this beautiful bike and a whole crowd of bikers gathered around. We walked up closer and asked if we could take a picture! The owner said that he was recently on a TV show where they custom build bikes. Pretty crazy, eh?

Country Ham Fest

Every Year our little town puts on a Ham Fest. Live music, tons of games for the kids, lots of food, and friends, and fun.

Random Jada Pics

This post is for all you Jada fans out there! These are some random pictures that were taken this year.

Jada helped me pick out the flowers and plant them this Spring. She was so proud!

At least one thing in this picture will stay beautiful all year round. (And it's definitely not the flowers!)

We swam so much this summer. Jada was like a little fish, she just couldn't get enough of it.

Shane took this picture one day after church on his cell phone. Gotta love technology.

Jada's Easter Picture.

One night I was out on the porch enjoying the fresh air and chatting on the phone. Jada came out and joined me. She went back inside and got a blanket, then went in again, and got a pillow. And as I was chatting, she just lied down and went to sleep in her little bed she made. Precious!

Here's another one of her passed out, asleep on the floor! You'd think she didn't have a bed.

Daddy and Daughter dancing.
I hope she inherits Shane's talent for dancing! Actually, believe it or not, one of her favorite shows is Dancing with the Stars.

Jada on the houseboat at Lake Powell with one of her favorite people. Nanny!

She developed a close bond with her cousin Kyle at Lake Powell. He was so sweet to her.

Man, she's starting to look so grown up!

This is a picture from our D.C. trip. I forgot to bring her stroller so I wheeled her around on this crazy contraption! I bought this chair that straps onto your carry-on bag. I'm such a sucker for new baby/kid contraptions! But it sure proved to be handy wheeling through the airport, and then through D.C. We got a lot of people asking us where we got this thing.
